Testimonials

I think most of what could be said about Alexia's amazing abilities as a therapist and more have been said in the other reviews. She is an incredibly talented and compassionate person, who took me on when others turned me away, and is bringing me back to being a whole person again. So I'll just add one thing:

If Carlsberg did therapists, they'd be Alexia Elliott!!

Sometimes words do not do people justice and sometimes there are not enough words or emotions to express how grateful I am for having met such an inspirational and wonderful woman/therapist. I remember the very first session that I had with Alexia, wondering if this person was going to be able to help me. Within minutes after meeting Alexia, I was at ease and felt very relaxed and comfortable. For once in my life I felt that this time was about ME. After many years I had finally realised and accepted that there were areas in my life that I needed to change  in particular, depressive episodes and weight loss. Little did I realise that the two were so interlinked, and for the first time ever, I felt that there was someone out there who understood the pain and torment that I had been going through."

Alexia is truly an amazing therapist with so much empathy and compassion for the people that she works with. I have gained so many valuable life-tools that have helped me to work though, and continue to work through, some of the barriers I had been facing.

Worry and anxiety over food and my life was all consuming.  It had all but taken over all my days and left me feeling so scared and alone that I didn't think I could ever feel safe, content or allow myself to smile ever again.  I found Alexia's approach and methods were a massive help, not only in making me feel better about myself but helping me find that teeny little bit of light in my life and showing me how to brighten up my whole existence.  It all made sense after she helped me to see who I really am, turns out I didn't have all that to worry about after all and after a few sessions with her, I began to feel so much better about all that was worrying me.  I can't believe I struggled for so long when I didn't have to.  Alexia has a gentle, yet no nonsense approach that is very caring; understated but SO effective.  I'd trust her with my spirit, mind and worries without hestitation, anytime.   KDP

The emphasis of the teaching is in the title of the course - quick, efficient cures for clients, not whys and wherefores. The client is then left empowered to go on with a life, armed with more choices than they thought possible

"Alexia Elliott was the Therapist I had sessions with. She was very Professional but also extremely friendly and put me at my ease straight away. I found the session fees paid for themselves in my case as I spent less on Alcohol due to them. My self belief and health also improved. Thank you."

"I looked forward to every session with Alexia and find it so easy to talk to her as I knew I can trust her. Alexia has helped me see things so much more clearly and have the belief to take things a step-at-a-time, with awareness and compassion for the journey that is taking place. Without any doubt, I will always HIGHLY RECOMMEND Alexia because, quite simply, she is the best. An inspirational person that helps you to see your world in a brighter light, an inspirational person that inspires you to be a better person". Kerry

"Working with Alexia of Empowerment Therapy has given me an amazing lease of life that seemed impossible 2 months ago. Alexia has a wide range of therapy skills which she constantly develops, a natural empathy toward people and an open mind. Using this mix she provided me with therapy that was specific to my needs, whilst being flexible toward the changes that I experienced. Most importantly, the journey that we went through was fun and creative (along with the odd tear); this provided me with the freedom I needed to gain true self awareness and make necessary change. Empowerment Hypnotherapy is an exceptional service that I would recommend to anyone who is looking to actively improve their life." Fiona

"I visited Alexia for weight related issues. I had struggled all my life. As well as weight loss, I was able to explore and close some very difficult issues in my life that were symptoms of my over eating. I am now able to eat sensible choices, eating wise feeling better physically and psychologically". Maisie"

"Alexia is a great listener and orchestrator of questions that inevitably make you search your inner soul to find root causes of anxiety and stress related problems, which often manifest as physical conditions. Doctors may prescribe medication and time off to heal, but Alexia brings about a self awareness that enables improved management of the cause and a better outcome. I have no hesitation in recommending her skills to any person or organisation" David

"As I was coming from a non counselling background, I wanted a course that catered for as wide a range of therapy topics as possible. Talking Cures exceeded this aspiration in every way. I have had doors opened to so many things, it's been a delight to start investigating future directions. The course covers all conceivable presenting problems and goes on to demonstrate many different ways of approaching them - from hypnotherapy, NLP, shamanic approaches and combinations of all three.

I found the delivery to be well paced and sympathetic the feelings of the group. In fact it was only looking back when I realised how much ground we had covered every weekend. The theory is interspersed with practical exercises and enlivened by many anecdotes and examples from the real world of counselling. the emphasis of the teaching is in the title of the course - quick, efficient cures for clients, not whys and wherefores. The client is then left empowered to go on with a life, armed with more choices than they thought possible.

If asked to sum up the course, I would describe it as a launch pad. A runway designed for students to take off in any direction they choose in the wide world of counselling. I would recommend it heartily to anyone considering taking up counselling, furthering their career or as wonderful self development."

"Having started the course with Talking Cures Training with no prior knowledge of hypnotherapy, I can honestly say that it has changed my life. Every single module was excellently taught by Alexia and Martin, both of whom have a wealth of experience in hypnotherapy, NLP and Shamanism.

They made every single one of the students feel at home from the word go. I enjoyed the course so much that I have become a professional hypnotherapist myself. I would recommend Talking Cures Training to anyone who wants to learn the skills and techniques involved in hypnotherapy, NLP and Shamanic healing. Every single lesson involved a lot of practical work, backed up with excellent slides and presentations" Mark

 Frequently asked questions

Is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy the same as being asleep?

No, it's not the same, it's an altered state of mind similar to day-dreaming, or becoming so absorbed in an activity that you lose all track of time. During these times you are not asleep, merely unconcerned about your surroundings at the time although feeling in control.

Hypnotherapy has been approved for use by the British Medical Association for more than 40 years. It's a form of therapy, which enables you to enlist the help of your conscious and unconscious/ subconscious mind. The emphasis is goal orientated and allows you to focus your attention internally, re-accessing resources and creating new associations, patterns of thinking and behaving.

What's the difference between hypnotist and Hypnotherapist?

A Hypnotist uses hypnosis for amusement in a stage show, the audience feels no long term positive gain, although of course laughter which is a great healer! Hypnotists use some of the techniques that a Hypnotherapist will use, for instance, suggestion, trance and visualisations, but that are where the similarity ends. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis positively, helping people to access their inner resources in a powerful and permanent way. Can I make you act like a chicken? Only if you want me too.

How does a trance state feel?

Its a lovely experience, believe it or not, there will have been many times in your life when you have already felt it, but maybe don't even know about it. If you've ever said to someone "I'm sorry, I missed that, I was 'miles away'", then hypnosis feels just like the bit where you were 'miles away'!  Being in a trance state is being relaxed, its not unlike meditation. It is very common for the people to come out of trance and say how wonderful they feel and how amazed they at how good they felt during the experience.

Will I loose control during hypnosis?

NO!, Hypnosis is an altered state of awareness, we are all in and out of altered states of awareness each and every day. Had the experience when you have been driving somewhere familiar, and you get to your destination, only to realise you have no idea how you got there, this is a trance state, but you were in control. you were driving your car safely. We are in and out of natural trance states on a daily basis, another example becoming absorbed in a book. Are you ever concerned that your eyes will become transfixed, and will crave to read the book over and over again? No! At those times your attention is absorbed within the book, sometimes to the exclusion of everything else, which means that certain sensations can go over looked or even ignored. During hypnosis your attention is focused on your internal world, so you are even more aware of physical and psychological changes, hence, even more in control of yourself.

Will I give away my secrets?

As previously mentioned, you are in complete control of yourself; you will not say or do anything that will be against your will. There is no need to divulge any more information than is necessary to alleviate your current problem.

Why visit a hypnotherapist?

Quite simply, visit a hypnotherapist if there is anything in your life you wish to change. Whether you would like to start doing something you wish to do, or stop doing something that's become a problem.

I'm a little nervous about hypnosis

Don't be! Come for an initial consultation (not necessary for stop smoking sessions), and we will answer all your questions to put your mind at rest.

Do I have to be referred by my G.P.?

No, although doctors do refer clients for hypnotherapy, it is certainly not a requirement for most conditions.

How will I feel afterwards?

After a course of therapy, many people feel invigorated, more confidant and enthusiastic about their new outlook on things. It's very common too, for people to feel a great deal of relief in getting over the issue which had been causing such anxiety, often for many years.

What about confidentiality?

Your confidentiality is assured at all times. No details will ever be discussed with anyone else, without your permission. Absolute confidentiality is one of the very strict requirements of our professional association.

I feel a bit 'funny' about going into therapy or having Hypnotherapy.

There's really no need to. No one is embarrassed about going to see an optician if they have a problem with their glasses, or consulting a mechanic for car problems, and hypnoanalysis is just the same.

There is absolutely no reason someone shouldn't seek professional help for any problem. There is certainly no 'stigma' to be felt when consulting a hypnotherapist. Indeed, we ourselves have had a full course of analytical hypnotherapy as an integral part of our training.

How do I book an appointment?

The procedure is very simple. Call or Alexia on Tel:07966412209 or email alexia@alexiaelliott.co.uk or  and we can arrange a mutually convenient appointment time.

 Can anybody be hypnotised?

Nobody can be hypnotised against his or her will, so if you choose not to be hypnotised, you will not be. However, it is said that if you allow the process to occur, that most people are hypnotisable. It is important to have a comfortable and trusting relationship with your hypnotherapist.

Will I remember everything that I experience whilst in hypnosis?

Total amnesia for the entire hypnotic procedure is unlikely; Sometimes it will be necessary for you to remember certain portions of the process in order to ensure your total success. Occasionally people believe they remember everything, because they are totally unaware of the information they have forgotten. Sometimes people believe they have fallen asleep and remember almost nothing about the process, although report feeling very relaxed. In this event it is unlikely that sleep has occurred, but rather a deep level of trance, accompanied by amnesia.

Does Hypnosis or Hypnotherapy involve drugs?

No the Hypnotherapist use their voice to create pleasant experiences and feelings, which may mean that you will  visualise the things, that are being spoken of and that you may experience the associated pleasant feelings.

Are there any side effects from Hypnotherapy?

The worst possible side effect is that you will fall asleep! If the Hypnotherapist were to stop talking for a while, you could either allow yourself to become more relaxed and so fall asleep, or you could open your eyes. You are in total control of your trance experience. On the other hand, the best possible side effect that you will notice is a complete alleviation of your presenting problem and the knowledge that you are able to create your own success.

 Is all Hypnosis Self Hypnosis?

As hypnosis is a permissive state, you choose your level of trance. In this way all hypnosis is self hypnosis, and you are in control of your progress. Hence, many people can notice a dramatic change in their life after just 1 session.

 What is NLP

N.L.P. - Neuro-Linguistic Programming, a therapeutic process which enables you to break old patterns and generate unlimited potential using posture, breathing, specific exercises, awareness and communication skills.

NLP is a bit like an 'owners manual' for your brain!

Linguistic refers to the insights into a person’s thinking that can be obtained by careful attention to their use of language Programming refers, not to the activity of programming, but to the study of the thinking and behavioural patterns or ‘programmes’ which people use in their daily lives.
